My Story

I love real estate agents. I grew up in a family that owned a large residential real estate brokerage and learned by osmosis. I’ve seen the challenges that come with being a leader and I know it’s difficult to encourage agents when the market is shifting, new technology seems to offer a better solution, and retaining talent is a never-ending conversation. I came to see my value in real estate is finding the parts of a business that are challenging and working through them to make them more effective.

Some of my experience includes:

  • VP of Operations for an independent traditional brokerage with 200+ agents for seven years until its sale

  • VP of Operations of an independent escrow company for five years

  • Chief Operating Officer of a team with 18 members and two partners for three years

  • Marketing and technology work in traditional brokerages for over a decade

What I can do for team leaders:

  • Develop systems that suit your goals

  • Create clear policies for compensation, lead ownership, and shared expenses that prevent surprises and disappointments

  • Find the best staffing structure for the stage your business is in with an eye on growth

  • Teach leaders to look at your profit & loss statement with an eye on growth

What I can do for team members:

  • Diagnose and treat bottlenecks

  • Design and implement systems that allow agents to spend less time on administrative functions

  • I can be a neutral third-party to work through team members’ concerns

My assumptions:

  • Real estate sales is easy to get into and very difficult to do well

  • Even the best agents worry that their last transaction will be the last transaction they get for a long time

  • Systems and procedures are tools to enable us to better serve our clients. We should not become servants of our systems, but they should serve us, our clients, and our team members

  • The team principal’s time is best used growing the company through business development and working with the team members to help them serve clients well

  • Real estate agents should have vacations where their phone is used only for checking the weather and making dinner reservations
